SETTLE

Meditation

When a flood of emotion carries you away, you struggle for days with the sensations in your body. Settle is a meditation practice I've developed over the years so that you can make peace with your sensations. For a while you set all your roles aside and turn your attention to yourself. As you listen to your body with curiosity, sensations begin to appear. These sensations bring stories to your mind and stir up emotions. When you notice you've got lost in the stories, you gently come back to your sensations. You don't have to sit. You can lean your back against a wall or lie down. It's based on mindfulness and vipassana.

At first the sensations seem strange and difficult. You feel uneasy and try to avoid them. Most of them are records your body has held for years. Because they were pushed down, they keep coming back. As you meet them with compassion, they calm down.

You make peace with your sensations and go on with your day. With regular practice your awareness grows stronger, you understand yourself better, and your self-compassion grows. You may still get carried away by an emotion, but now it doesn't last long.

Ergin knows the spiritual side of yoga, and he also knows the human body more deeply than anyone I know. He taught me about my body and the right ways to use it, and I learned a lot. He also showed me how useful things like meditation and the inner journey can be, things I thought I'd never be interested in.

From Ergin I learned to listen to my soul and my body, to focus and stay in the moment, to guide my thoughts, sometimes to stop and think, and to value myself more. Thank you so much, I'm so glad I met you.

Ergin Ündeğer

I studied yoga therapy at university. In thirteen years I've worked with hundreds of people and led more than thirty retreats. My travels took me from the clinics of India to the monasteries of Nepal, and from Thailand to Bali. I developed the practice you'll work with from those travels and from my experience as a teacher. More important than that, Meditation is also the friend I trust most to help me understand myself better.
